VanB-VanC1 Enterococcus gallinarum, Italy
Virtually all practices had a computer (79 [99%] of 80), Internet access (70 [88%] of 80), and email (53 [75%] of 71). Most (68 [91%] of 75) were comfortable using a Webbased application to submit case reports. However, because Internet access and email may not be universal, multiple modes of communication must be utilized. Furthermore, of 81 respondents, 29 (36%) indicated lack of time, and 24...
متن کاملTransferable, plasmid-mediated vanB-type glycopeptide resistance in Enterococcus faecium.
An approximately 60-kb transferable, vanB-carrying plasmid has been identified in a clinical Enterococcus faecium strain. A similar plasmid has been observed in an unrelated E. faecium strain, suggesting that plasmid transfer of vanB operons occurs in nature and plays a role in the dissemination of VanB-type resistance among strains of E. faecium.
متن کاملCharacterization of an Enterococcus gallinarum Isolate Carrying a Dual vanA and vanB Cassette.
The ability of vancomycin resistance determinants to be horizontally transferred within enterococci species is a concern. Identification and characterization of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) in a clinical isolate have a significant impact on infection control practices. In this study, we describe a clinical isolate of Enterococcus gallinarum exhibiting high-level resistance to vancomyc...
متن کاملEmergence of VanB phenotype-vanA genotype Enterococcus faecium clinical isolate in Bulgaria.
anA glycopeptide resistance is characterized by acquired nducible resistance to both vancomycin and teicoplanin, hereas the VanB phenotype is characterized by variable evels of resistance to vancomycin but susceptibility to eicoplanin.1 Here we report a vancomycin-resistant Enterooccus faecium (VREFm) strain with VanB phenotype-vanA enotype incongruence. In the course of antimicrobial susceptib...
متن کاملEmergence and characterisation of vanB vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Here we describe the detection and characterisation of three isolates of vancomycin-resistant VanB-type Enterococcus faecalis. Sequence analysis suggested that these isolates harboured the vanB1 gene. The isolates were susceptible to the majority of antimicrobial agents tested, with the exception of chloramphenicol, erythromycin and vancomycin, and showed distinct profiles of high-level resista...
